You’ve been the first Falcon all season and that is special, Kathryn. Your dedication over months and years is culminating in a very good season. Julia and Sarah, you’ll be doing a lot of ‘last times’ in the weeks and months to come, so sit back, run your tails off, and enjoy because you know it’s gonna go fast. You three ladies have represented the program and yourselves with dignity. Continue to train hard and smart so you can finish this season strong.

The goal of the season is to be running your best races at the end of the season. The end is approaching and its time to turn up the heat and increase the intensity during training and races. This is no time to be conservative or passive. You will be run over and left behind. Do not wait for teammates in runs anymore. Fine tune the training in the next few weeks to ensure success in October.

“It is horrible, yet fascinating, this struggle between a set purpose and an utterly exhausted frame.”

-(Arthur Doyle after observing Italy’s Dorando Pietri collapse
three times in the last 100 meters of the 1908 Olympic Marathon.
